Lucas, Ali and Adi are 18 year olds in their final year at Leicester Grammar School in the United Kingdom. Although they were all friends from before, working on AgriPod has brought them even closer now.

On a trip to his home country, India, Adi had the chance to visit local farmers and speak to them about the issues they face. Upon his return to the UK, he shared these concerns with his teammates. Initially they were simply saddened, but this moment then triggered them to do something about it. They started to think about what would empower small farmers in northern India, and in other lower income countries, to cut fertilizer waste.

The team hopes to scale AgriPod in the future so that it can have an impact in other countries and continents. They hope that this data gathering device can also become a platform to benefit universities and governments for research to solve related issues.

The Earth Prize competition has helped them answer some of the most important questions throughout their journey. These questions pushed them to think about their project from various different angles. It was a meaningful and fulfilling experience that has put their team to the test. The competition taught them to work together by splitting up tasks like in a proper high speed working environment. In fact, each of the students from AgriPod applied their particular expertise and passions for design, finance, and engineering to bringing their project this far along.

This journey has been enlightening for the boys in understanding how climate change has different effects across the world. How they experience climate change in the United Kingdom is different to other regions, but AgriPod can provide value to farmers everywhere.
